At least according to the congregation of Southland Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky.
The pastor of the church is rallying spiritual help for the derailed pop princess via the Internet. Pastor John Weece is encouraging members of the Southland Christian Church to send letters of love to the 26-year-old train wreck. Following what Weece describes as the pop diva’s series of “devastating life choices.”
The pastor made Spears the subject of a recent sermon (which he later posted on the church’s website) and ended by asking parishioners to “take a few minutes and write a note to Britney.” Weece added a few caveats such as “no preaching and no criticizing.” Rather, the pastor encouraged his flock to provide uplifting words of support to the spiritually lost songstress. “As a church, let’s love Britney the way Jesus loves her,” Weece directed church members.
Weece told media outlets the idea for the letter writing campaign came as he watched repeated news reports of Spears’ erratic behavior and alleged problems with drugs and alcohol; not to mention her latest battle to regain custody of her young sons.
“If she were your next-door neighbor in the same situation without the money and success, wouldn’t you care about her problems? Wouldn’t you pray for her and offer her support and encouragement?” Weece asked members of his congregation.
Given what transpired during her latest court appearance, Brit can use all the prayers she can get. Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline appeared together Friday for a three-hour custody hearing behind closed doors. The session ended with Ms. Meltdown in tears swearing at news reporters camped outside the courtroom.
According to Spears’ attorney the judge will issue a ruling on issues of custody by Tuesday.
No word on whether the group prayer card will arrive to Spears before the judge’s ruling is made official.
I say forget about Brit–the card (and the prayers) should go to Spears and Federline’s two sons. They are the ones who are suffering the most from their parents’ poor decisions.
