I’ve written a series of blogs on wedding photography, which included a variety of sub-topics from what qualities you should look for in a wedding photographer to how much you should expect to pay for memorable shots. But, what about those couples that can’t afford to shell out big bucks for a photo album filled with prize-winning wedding pictures?
An Ohio couple marking their 27th anniversary has an answer you may find hard to believe.
Karen Cline married the love of her life in 1980. Back then she and her beloved were teenagers with very little money. Cline was 18 and her husband 19 when they got married. They had a photographer snap a few shots of their big day, but didn’t have enough cash to pay for the prints. Cline tells the sad tale of admiring the pictures, but then being heartbroken when she realized that neither she nor her husband had the $150 to pay for them.
Fast-forward nearly 30 years to last week when the Cline’s wedding photographer was cleaning out some old boxes. Jim Wagner, who’s now 80 years old says he came across a bunch of photos he took of a young Cline in her wedding dress. Wagner says he knew the couple couldn’t afford to pay for the pictures, but he held on to them anyway.
Almost 27 years to the day after he took the first photos of Cline’s celebrating their wedding day, Wagner showed up at the diner where Karen Cline works and surprised her with a photo album from her special day in 1980.
“I just stood there and cried and cried and hugged him,” Cline told news reporters afterward.
Cline revealed that for the last 27 years all she has had to remember her wedding day is a single picture a guest took of her walking down the aisle.
Wagner said he was able to track down Cline after running into her stepfather a few weeks ago. The next day Wagner showed up at the diner with photos in hand. Cline told reporters the emotional reunion became even more teary when she wrote Wagner a check for the long-awaited $150.
