No airline passenger enjoys being delayed regardless of what airport he or she is sentenced to do time in. However, there are some airports in the United States where conquering boredom is a bit easier than others. Take a look:
SAN DIEGO
San Diego International is getting passengers jazzed up about flying into or out of its facility by continuing its popular Terminal Jazz Performance concerts. The mini music fests are free and accessible to ticketed passengers and have been a proven hit among travelers since the program’s inception more than a year ago.
The airport’s 2008 season will kick off on November 9th with local jazz artist Dave Scott. Performances run from 7 to 9:15 pm. in the Terminal 2 baggage claim area every second Friday. Meanwhile, the airport’s Solo Artist Series of concerts runs from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m. the fourth Friday of each month in the Terminal 1 baggage claim area. The series offers an eclectic mix of jazz, swing, and funk performances.
The airport’s concert series will surely compliment a new exhibit of Taylor Guitars beginning November 15th in the Commuter Terminal lobby. Taylor is a well-known local manufacturer that produces high-end acoustic, acoustic/electric and electric guitars played by the likes of international superstars such as Prince and Dave Matthews.
LOS ANGELES
If you are arriving into or departing out of LAX anytime after November 15th you’ll want to make time to visit the new and improved Encounter Restaurant. Closed since March for repairs, the intergalactic-themed eatery that sits atop the landmark Theme Building in the middle of Los Angeles International Airport will finally reopen next month. The Jetsons-themed décor is the same—–though the carpeting and furniture has been cleaned and updated—as is the “California Fresh” cuisine options and the Space Cadet kids’ menu. The restaurant also has new hours—-it will now be open for lunch daily from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. but will be open for dinner only on Friday and Saturday evenings until business picks back up.
PORTLAND
Portland International Airport is catering to busy travelers by offering a new Gold Key Valet parking service. You can now drop off your car, your keys and your return-flight itinerary at a booth on the roadway in front of the departures level of the terminal and your vehicle will be waiting for you when you return. The price is $30 a day. Reservations are not required. How’s that for service?
