Fifty-two days and counting until Santa makes his yearly visit and you know what that means… you have less than two months to get all of your holiday shopping done.
If you are an avid photographer you’ll likely be giving away at least some gifts with a photo theme. In previous blogs I provided directions on how to make some simple and affordable photo projects, and with the holidays just around the corner I’ve decided to keep the ideas flowing and dedicate at least two blogs a week to fabulous photo gifts.
The following photo projects are just as easy to make as the ones featured in these blogs, and like the others they don’t compromise on style. They are wonderful ways to display the cherished shots you plan to share with others this holiday season.
CORK PHOTO HOLDERS
If you are a pack rat (I mean Frugal Felicity) you likely have a drawer full of corks from bottles of libations that you’ve been saving for just the right project. Well, here’s your chance to empty that drawer. Corks make wonderful photo holders. And with a drawer full of them you can turn them into a creative centerpiece for that holiday meal.
Here’s what you’ll need:
· Corks from wine bottles
· Horizontal photographs no larger than 4 x 6 inches
· Utility knife or butter knife
Directions:
Try to find a cork that is not stained. Make sure the bottom of the cork is level. If it isn’t, trim it with the knife. Next, cut a wedge shape in the top of the cork. Drive your knife down about 1/4 inch. Then, cut straight down another 1/4 inch. This will make sort of a “Y” shape cut. Finally, insert your favorite picture into the space.
Note: You could use vertical pictures if they are not more than four inches tall; any larger than that and the cork holder will fall over. Also, you might need to add a bit of moldable mounting adhesive to secure your photos in the cork holder. If children are helping with this project, give them a serrated butter knife instead of a utility knife—-it works just as well to cut the cork.
PHOTO THANK YOU CARDS
I discussed a version of this project in a previous blog, but this one comes with a twist. These cards are especially appropriate for children to give to loved ones who have showered them with gifts over the holidays.
Directions:
Take a picture of your child playing with their new toy or modeling the new outfit he or she got as a holiday gift. Print out the picture then paste it to a homemade thank you card. If your child is old enough to write his own note have him do so. If your child is too young to write have her add some decorations to the card with crayons or markers. The card recipient will appreciate how much your child liked the toy or how great your little one looked in the new outfit.
