How to Make Christmas Decorations Using Your Favorite Photos

With less than 50 days until Christmas surely you must have your home decorated for the season. Yeah, right. I am nowhere near the decorating phase. In fact, I’m still in the designing phase, but I know time is not on my side. If you are scrambling to find unique homemade gifts to give to family and friends, consider completing the two projects I am working on. They are simple to make and quite affordable. But, the best part is that they feature personal photographs of the special people in your life. I find that that these projects are a great way to use my leftover pictures or to show off photos that hold a special place in my heart.

PHOTO STOCKING

What You Need:

· Large pieces of felt

· Copies of your favorite photos

· Scissors

· Glue

Directions:

First, cut the felt pieces into the shape of a stocking. I use a store bought standard size stocking as a template. Then, decide how many pictures you want to feature on each stocking. A standard stocking can accommodate about six small photos. Next, place the pictures on the felt. Then, make circle cutouts in the felt and glue the photos on the inside so that the pictures are visible through the holes in the stocking. When the glue is dry, apply adhesive to the edges of two large felt pieces and press together to make the stocking. You can then add embellishments such as cording, bells, sequins, beads or glitter. I also like to add the name of the person I am making the stocking for. You can either stitch the name or use glitter glue to write out the person’s name.

PHOTO ORNAMENTS

What You Need:

· Four 4×6 photos

· Cardstock

· Scissors

· Glue

· Glitter, sequins, piping

· Hole puncher

· Ribbon

Directions:

Cut ornament shapes from cardboard templates. I made five shapes—-circles, squares, diamonds, stars, and flowers. Then set them aside. Next, glue your photos on the front and back of 2 pieces of cardstock. You can either use the same photo or mix and match different images. When the glue is dry, use your ornament template and cut each piece of cardstock/photo into whatever shape you desire. To give your ornament a 3-D effect cut slits in photo shapes to match the template and slide the pieces together perpendicularly. When you are done you should be left with a 3-dimensional ornament. Next, embellish your ornament with glitter, sequins or colored markers. Finally, punch a hole in top of ornament and add the ribbon.
