I talked a little last week about the Personal Progress program and how to encourage your daughter to participate in it. One aspect of the new program is the seven value projects that each young woman has to complete. Each project needs to be at least ten hours in length. There are several ideas listed at the end of each of the seven values that your daughter can choose from or she can make up her own project.
One of the great things about these projects is that they truly prepare the young women for what they will be doing as adults. The projects vary from reading the Book of Mormon to learning how to plan and cook for the family. It should be easy to find a project that interests your daughter.
One project that the Laurels in our ward did was to offer to baby sit on ward temple night. They set up a nursery class in the stake center next to the temple. This made it easy for members to drop off and pick up their children, and allowed the Laurels to help even more families. This was a great service because they allowed so many people to go and serve in the temple.
Another value project that can be fun is to teach a class about healthy eating to all of the other young women. Another project that would be meaningful is to help an elderly ward member on a regular basis with household chores or errands that need to be run. This would help to build a lasting relationship with that ward member, and help both emotional and physical needs to be met.
The value projects are a wonderful way for each girl to branch out in learning and growth. The seven projects allow true growth in each of the seven values. I know that as you encourage your young woman to complete this program that her life will be blessed.
