An Unbelievable Deal for Holiday Travelers

Now here’s something you don’t hear everyday… a popular company giving you an early holiday gift. If you don’t love Maxwell House coffee now you just might after hearing what they are doing to help holiday travelers save a couple bucks on the way to grandma’s house this Thanksgiving.

As part of a nationwide campaign aimed as “brewing some good” the coffee company is picking up the tab for all motorists at toll plazas in eight U.S. cities-—Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Miami, and Pittsburgh—-between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, traditionally known as the busiest travel day of the year. In addition, Maxwell House will distribute free fare cards at five New York subway stations.

The company says it wants holiday travelers to have a “toll free” holiday. However, it is not revealing which toll plazas they’ll be spreading their holiday good cheer at (all company spokespeople will say is that it is one per city). Likewise, the folks at Maxwell House will not specify which subway stations (one in each New York borough) will be the target of the random acts of kindness. The company is also staying mum on how much the publicity stunt will set them back. Although, it is not shying away from revealing that for each toll it pays, it also plans to make a donation to America’s Second Harvest, a hunger-relief agency, for up to a total of $100,000.

Free tolls on the busiest travel day of the year? I have a feeling that’ll jolt some unsuspecting drivers more than a shot of caffeine will. I wonder if Maxwell House plans to videotape the reactions of the lucky motorists as they find out that a coffee company is footing the bill for their toll? I think it would make for a great holiday commercial…
