It’s below freezing where I live, but instead of the weather getting me in the mood to research winter travel destinations, it only makes me want to seek out sunny locales all the more.
If you plan to jump on the educational vacation bandwagon this season (for those of you who are not familiar with the trend of educational vacations, they are nothing more than trips to desired locations that feature an opportunity to learn something new) you might consider the following packages.
SCUBA in St. Lucia
Various resorts in St. Lucia offer SCUBA packages. You have a variety of options to choose from. For example, you can start with a 15-minute free trial. If you like it you can sign up for a full week of lessons and at the end you can gain full certification. The weeklong package costs about $800 (that doesn’t include hotel accommodations or meals). Conversely, if during the 15 minute trial you find you are not comfortable with it, you walk out and it won’t cost you a dime. Note: You need know how to swim, but you don’t have to be an expert in undersea exploration.
St. Lucia’s Scuba Steve’s Diving offers packages for different age groups and different skill levels. Insured instructors also teach a large range of diver certification courses. Which means you have the opportunity to simply try scuba diving or snorkeling for the first time or if you really get the hang of it, gain certification while on vacation.
Golfing in Orlando
The Marriott Faldo Golf Institute in Orlando, Florida also offers a great learning vacation. The package is open to golfers of all skill levels (beginner or advanced) and the cost is right around $800 (not including airfare and accommodations).
Professional golfer Nick Faldo designed the program himself and he certified and trained all the instructors himself. The deal offered by the Faldo Golf Institute by Marriott allows you to learn Nick Faldo’s methods on how to improve the critical aspects of your golf game through the comprehensive curriculum.
The Marriott does offer a Hotel/Golf Package that ranges in price from $900 to $1800, and unlike the golf-only package it includes lodging, breakfast and lunch, but does not include airfare or ground transportation.
