Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) has fully accepted his role as Santa Claus and loves every minute of it. He works well with the elves, he has a good command of the magic that has been given him, and he looks forward to Christmas every year. His son Charlie still comes to the North Pole and helps him out, but this year, Charlie’s having some issues and has ended up on the naughty list. To make matters worse, there’s a slight problem. There’s a Mrs. clause in the Santa contract. Scott has to get married by midnight on Christmas Eve or he will cease to be Santa.
Leaving the North Pole in the capable hands of his elves, Scott heads down to his hometown to talk to Charlie and to find a wife. The elves found a way to make a Santa clone and feel that with the man of plastic as the mascot, everyone will want to keep working until the real Santa’s return. Scott focuses all his energy on his other tasks, sure that Christmas will be a success.
But there’s a problem with this whole wife-thing. She has to be someone Scott can admire and respect, while also being someone he can love. Most of all, she needs to be prepared to leave behind her entire life and come to the North Pole with him. Where is he going to find a woman like that?
He doesn’t know, but he finds himself drawn to Charlie’s Christmas-hating principal, Carol Newman. Maybe it’s the challenge of converting her to Christmas. Maybe it’s the fact that she’s smart and pretty. Whatever the reason, he can’t stop thinking about her, and that drives a further wedge between himself and Charlie.
But this wouldn’t be a Christmas movie without a miracle. Carol’s eyes are opened and she believes that Scott is Santa, and she wins a trip to the North Pole. Santa gets his Mrs. and Charlie comes to understand that his attitude doesn’t wash. Oh, and they save the entire North Pole from Plastic Santa gone wrong.
I liked this movie quite a lot. It’s not often that the sequel is as good as the first movie, but I felt this one really did the story justice.
This film was rated PG.
