Prison Bans Jennifer Aniston… Poster

You have to wonder if Jennifer Aniston realizes that a mere picture of her flawless figure is at the center of a case that has cost taxpayers in Wisconsin (that’s me) thousands of dollars.

On second thought, I’m sure she tells her publicist to keep these types of stories far, far away from her.

So here’s the scoop on Jennifer Aniston (the poster) vs. the world (or at least this part of the world).

An inmate imprisoned about 30 minutes from my home wanted to hang a picture of Brad Pitt’s ex-wife on the wall of his cell. However, the warden wouldn’t allow it citing the prison’s policy, which states that inmates cannot receive or display commercially published photographs. According to prison officials, commercially published photos often contain nudity or other forbidden content such as gang symbols.

So the inmate, who by the way is a convicted murderer (in 1993 he killed a woman as she was exiting a Milwaukee fast-food restaurant), took his case to court arguing that his First Amendment rights had been violated.

The case eventually got as far as federal court, specifically the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Two days ago a judge ruled in favor of the prison — but offered the inmate advice on how to get a picture of the former “Friends” star.

The appeals court said the prison’s policy was reasonable and the 30-year-old inmate who has been sitting in the same cell since he was 17 could always get around it by ordering magazines.

According to the judge, even though Aniston may not be in every magazine the inmate subscribed to “the likelihood of an eventual photograph of her is sufficiently high to suffice as an alternative.”

That didn’t sit well with the inmate who claimed it didn’t make sense to disallow commercial photographs but at the same time allow magazines that could contain hundreds of images. The Aniston devotee further argued a commercial photo would be less trouble for the prison than if he had to order several magazines to find the one picture of the TV star he wanted.

Who knew Jennifer Aniston’s biggest fan was behind bars?
