The Christmas Party – Adrienne Adams

Are you ready for a Christmas party? Let’s see what the Abbott family has in store this year.

Orson Abbott and his parents are the Easter egg artists. Every rabbit in the land knows who they are – they’re the most creative, most talented rabbits in the world. Orson takes his job very seriously, even when all the other rabbits want him to come outside and play. He wants to create the most marvelous eggs in the world, and you can’t do that if you’re wasting your time running around in the snow. He’s got so many eggs to do, he has to work clear through winter to get them all done.

Every night, Orson sleeps in his tree house, and the other children really want to come up and see it. He finally relents and up they come, and while they’re there, they present to him a plan. They want to throw a surprise Christmas party for their parents, and they ask Orson if he will help them. He really doesn’t want to, but he feels a little trapped and agrees.

Father Abbott chops down the perfect tree for the party, and all the children help decorate it with beautifully painted eggs. (What else?) They string popcorn all around, and make homemade gifts. Father Abbott even has a Santa suit and volunteers to dress up for the occasion.

The children dash home to get their parents, who arrive on sleds and are completely surprised. Everyone has a wonderful time. When it’s all over, Orson is worn out from all the hard work, but he’s made a lot of new friends, and he understands that we can’t focus so hard on work that we forget to enjoy life as well.
