Are You Taking Things Way Too Seriously?

I know this is serious business, this whole home-business thing. For many of us, we have a lot at stake on our businesses and it is incredibly important that we succeed and that we learn how to be “serious” business people. BUT, are we in danger of taking ourselves and our businesses too seriously? Are we losing perspective or becoming so tense that we are not having any fun at things? What can be done if we feel we are getting far too rigid and uptight?

I know that I am taking things in my business way too seriously when I stop seeing the humor in ordinary daily blunders. When I am trying to control the uncontrollable or feel on the verge of falling apart if something goes awry, that is when I know I need to take a step back and get some fresh perspective. I know there are other people who have a hard time taking their home businesses seriously at all—but I am just the opposite. I have a tendency to feel like the sun rises and sets on whether or not my business is doing well. I don’t know if it is that I feel I have something to prove (never a good idea, I admit) or that I waited a long time to start my business and feel like it is important to me—but I do sometimes clench too hard and forget to trust in the process without my needing to control every piece.

So, if it has been a while since you laughed on the job, or you are feeling like if something goes wrong you won’t be able to handle it—you might be taking things too seriously. Things ARE going to go wrong and we won’t be able to follow every plan and budget to the letter. We also won’t be able to keep every single customer or client happy. We do have to let go, have a laugh, and try NOT to take everything in our home businesses so seriously!
