Because Wayne returned to his old job with the old hours (i.e. long and frequent), he knew he wasn’t going to have time for Christmas shopping. So last Sunday we went to Best Buy to get me a new digital camera: a Canon PowerShot SD 1000.
Wow, is it slick! It’s my first digital camera so I have a bit of a learning curve to overcome, but who cares? That’s half the fun.
Besides, it does a bunch of neat things my film camera couldn’t do –like take movies with sound!
I haven’t had all that much time to play with it in the last week, but this morning I had a chance to tinker a bit. And who better to practice on than Murphy, Tabby, and Kitty?
They are less than thrilled.
They know my affinity for taking pictures period, and that they’re my favorite subject matter. However, usually I point, sometimes try to get their attention, click, and it’s done.
They don’t understand why I’m not holding this camera up to my eye but instead out in front of me. Nor do they get why I keep it focused on them, following their every move without the flash always going off. (Which bugs them, especially Mr. Meow. He hates the flash!)
So my first few movie shots have not captured them at their natural best. They’ve sort of been clammed up and apprehensive.
But I’m confident over time they’ll get more comfortable in front of the camera. They have to. After all, I’ve got big plans for them this year.
I’ve got to get Mr. Meow in a maestro moment plucking at his vent so I can post it to YouTube. Same with the cats playing with each other in their cube huts, and Tabby the acrobat whapping around her Wiffie.
And can’t leave Murph out. I’ve got to get him doing his WWF Smackdown moves with his friend Sophie. Or, if I can get him to do it again, using his nose to open the Hallmark card of the jingle bell barking dogs that I have taped to the counter. (He did that the other day –-on his own, no coercion from me– then stood there wagging his tail at it. So cute!)
Ah, yes, I have big plans indeed for Murphy, Mr. Meow and Tabby –and all of us as a family. Because something else this new camera has is a timer. I sense a family Christmas photo coming on before the season’s over…
