Finding Gratitude

Christmas is one of the most special days of the year, but it is hard to deal with that letdown feeling that comes either that day or a day or two later. It seems that all the rush, and gift giving can become too overwhelming, and you just end up feeling tired and stressed. There are a few ways to combat that, and they all deal with gratitude.

The first thing you may want to do is take a few minutes to write in your journal about all the things that you are grateful for. Look beyond the gifts that you have received, and the general things that you think about every day. Find things to be grateful for in the trials that you have had the last year. It may be someone who volunteered to help you out, or it may be the strength you received to help you endure your trial.

Take a few minutes to write a thank you card to someone who has helped you in some way. A simply thank you can mean a lot to the person. It also gives you a chance to express your feelings and to reflect on your blessings. You may also want to kneel and pray in gratitude to your Heavenly Father for the many blessings that you have received.

It is also important to help our children to remember to be thankful. You may have your children write a thank you card for the presents that he received. You may have your children write one card a day. This would not take up much time, but it stresses the importance of showing gratitude for the blessings that you have had.

You may decide to have a family testimony meeting as well. If your family is too spread out, you may decide to have a letter testimony meeting. Each member of the family writes their testimony down, and then it is compiled in a book. This book is then sent out to all the family members. This is a wonderful gift that can strengthen the entire family.
