Safe Cocktail Alternatives

Most pregnant women know that consuming alcohol can be dangerous to the baby. Experts are not in agreement regarding a safe level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Some may tell you that one glass of wine on Christmas or New Year’s Eve is fine. Others prefer to be more cautious and advise patients to avoid alcohol completely.

The holidays and toasting seem to go hand in hand. Whether you are having a family get together or will be hosting a New Year’s bash, you may miss toasting with friends and loved ones. There are some great alternatives to the typical alcoholic beverages.

Virgin cocktails, also known as mocktails, are becoming trendy in some areas. Bars and restaurants are including some well known favorites along with house recipes on their menus. If you are at an office party or restaurant, ask about alcohol free cocktails. Here are some recipes to try at home:

Virgin Mary: This drink actually has some nutritional benefits. It is a good source of vitamins C and K. To make you will need: 3 ounces each of cranberry and tomato juice, Tabasco sauce, lime juice and black pepper. Add a stalk of celery and serve over ice.

Arnold Palmer: This drink is named for the golf legend Arnold Palmer. Many bartenders are familiar with this drink, so if you are at an office party keep it in mind. To make at home you will need: equal parts of lemonade and iced tea. Add sugar and a lemon wedge and serve with ice.

There are countless other recipes for original drinks. You can find recipes by searching on the Internet for alcohol free cocktail recipes. Use the same cocktail glasses or stemware you are using for the other guests at your party and add garnish to the drinks.
