This last week was an interesting one, since all of the manuals had finished up. This means that the teachers chose the lesson topic. Additionally it was a fifth Sunday so each bishop chose the lesson for the Relief Society Priesthood lessons. You may simply want to talk to your family and ask them what their lessons were about.
You may consider talking a little bit about the Book of Mormon, since we will begin studying it in Sunday School next week. You can talk about the translation of the Book of Mormon and share stories of how the Book of Mormon has helped you in your life. The reading assignment for Sunday School is the Introduction in the Book of Mormon. This section includes the testimonies of the three witnesses and the eight witnesses, as well as the Prophet Joseph Smith. Additionally you should read 1 Nephi 13:38-41, 19:23; 2 Nephi 25:21-22, 27:22, 29:6-9; Moroni 1:4, 10:3-5; Doctrine and Covenants 10:45-46, 20:8-12, and 84:54-58.
In Priesthood and Relief Society we will be studying the teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith. You should have received your new manuals at church on Sunday. You may want to talk to your family a little bit about Joseph Smith and the First Vision. However, next week’s lesson will be determined by your presidencies.
Additionally you may want to discuss any class changes that your children may be experiencing on Sunday. This is especially important if your child doesn’t handle change well. You may want to talk about the new Sharing Time theme as well. This year’s theme is “I am a child of God.” The scripture is Psalms 82:6 “All of you are children from the most high.” This would be an excellent scripture to memorize as a family.
You may also want to talk about goals. You may want to set family goals, as well as personal goals. You can set up a goal chart to put near your dinner table so you can check on the progress on a regular basis.
