On January 13, 1968, Johnny Cash performed a legendary concert at the Folsom State Prison. Cash himself was no stranger to run-ins with the law. But, despite his image, Cash was never sentenced to prison. He did go to jail seven times, but only spent one night each stay. However, his Folsom Prison concert helped give him the “outlaw” image and was a breakthrough performance that became a well-liked live album.
To make the 40th anniversary of that memorable concert, there was tribute concert planned, but those plans have now been scrapped. Who decided to cancel the concert? Well, that depends on with whom you talk. The promoter, Jonathan Holiff, said the prison officials broke their promise. Prison officials said they cancelled the concert because of problems over filming rights, media access, and security concerns. The concert would have benefited four nonprofit groups, but the executive director of Prison Fellowship Ministries said that Cash fans and the inmates ended up losing what could have been a great concert, featuring Cash’s music and his original drummer W.S. “Fluke” Holland.
I do not know about you, but I am eagerly awaiting the release of the new “Sex and the City” movie, which is scheduled to come out in May. Rumor is they are already planning two more sequels, but if you cannot wait that long, you may be able to get the behind the scene goods on the real show. Clifford Streit, the real life Stanford Blatch, is planning to write a memoir titled “Unbecoming Stanford.”
The former manager of the real life Carrie Bradshaw, Candace Bushnell, Streit plans to dish about real life affairs on the show and tension between stars. He will also talk about how executive producer Darren Star would not cast Ashton Kutcher on the show because he said, “I don’t see this kid going anywhere.” Oh well, producers have been wrong before.
Still no good gossip on what the movie will entail, although Kristin Davis has been seen shooting scenes pregnant and we have seen pics of Sarah Jessica Parker in a wedding dress. Hum, is a “Big” wedding being planned?
