Hannah Montana Mania Hits the Big Screen

If you thought getting tickets to the “Hannah Montana” concert was tough then you haven’t tried getting seats to the 3D movie version of Miley Cyrus mania.

“Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” is a movie shot in Disney Digital 3D and features teen phenom singing sensation Miley Cyrus during her 54-date sold-out tour. In the movie the 15-year-old star of Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” series, performs as both a solo artist and as her TV character, Hannah Montana.

And if you or your child wants in on the action you’d better be prepared to get creative. Industry analysts’ say the concert movie is expected to set box-office records. No surprise there considering it was already No. 1 on MovieTickets.com on December 1st – the first week tickets went on sale and the flick doesn’t even open in movie theaters until February 1st.

On Fandango, the nation’s largest movie ticketing service, hundreds of showtimes are already sold out despite the fact that theater owners are constantly adding new ones. Yesterday a spokesperson from Fandango announced that the Miley movie accounted for 30 percent of all tickets sold. “It’s the best-selling concert movie in Fandango’s seven-year history,” the company’s CEO told reporters.

In Los Angeles one movie theater plans to show the film to thousands of fans at 12:01 a.m. on February 1st. Meanwhile, other theaters have scheduled 8 a.m. screenings on that day. The movie is playing in more than 600 theaters.

For parents who suffered headaches and back pain trying to secure tickets for their children to see Cyrus perform live on stage, the movie either has added to their suffering or serves as a chance to make up for some of the disappointment their children felt when Miley’s “Best of Both Worlds Tour” sold out within minutes of when the tickets went on sale.

Adding to the madness is the fact that Disney is limiting the movie’s run. Company officials declined to comment on why the mega-popular film would only be in theaters for a week. They also remained tight-lipped regarding whether the movie would be extended or if it would be released on DVD.

Do you have tickets for the Miley movie? And how do you feel about the show’s limited run? Do you think it’s Disney’s attempt to prevent Hannah Montana burn out?
