The Surprising and the Not-So Surprising

Actress Kathleen Turner has come out and said Nicolas Cage was difficult…at least he was 21 years ago. Kathleen has just written her autobiography Send Yourself Roses and in it, she says Nicolas was a real diva when the two filmed Peggy Sue Got Married in 1986. The film was directed by Nicolas’ real life uncle, Francis Ford Coppola. In case you didn’t know, Nicolas’ birth name was Nicholas Kim Coppola. He changed his last name to Cage so he wouldn’t get any special treatment for being a Coppola. He took the last name of Cage after comic book character Luke Cage.

Kathleen said in her book that “Everything Francis Ford Coppola wanted him (Cage) to do, he went against to show that he wasn’t under his uncle’s wing. Which was ridiculous. Oh, that stupid voice of his and the fake teeth! Honestly, I cringe to think about it. He caused so many problems.” Hum, his voice is one of the things I like about him!

Anyhow, she also says Nicolas was in trouble with the law during the filming of the film. She said he was arrested twice for drunk driving and once for stealing a dog. Nicolas has said that “While I recall Kathleen Turner being a great lady and wonderful actress, the credibility of her biography and her memory is at stake . . . Fact credibility should have been exercised on (her) part.”

To me, this sounds like sour grapes from someone whose career is all but over for someone whose career is still in high gear.

In the not so surprising news, singer Amy Winehouse has been admitted to rehab. Actually, this may also be surprising news, as Amy has been pretty against rehab in the past. But, a film of her smoking something in a glass pipe (never a good thing) hit the Internet this week, so maybe she has finally hit rock bottom and decided to seek help.

A statement from her record label said, “Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors. She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction.”

I hope she gets the help she needs. I think she has an incredible voice and I’d hate to see drugs ruin that.
