Frugal SuperBowl

Want to celebrate the Superbowl but not spend a lot of money? From hosting parties to getting in on official events, here are some ideas that will help you have a great time and stay on budget. Your guests will hope that you host it every year!

One idea to have a frugal Superbowl is to host a potluck party. Ask your guests to bring food or a beverage. You can provide the paper plates, cups, napkins, etc. Purchase them at the dollar store instead of the party store to save a lot of money. You can also make inexpensive party food, such as homemade dip, brownies from a mix, BBQ chicken wings, etc.

If you want to have a great time at those official Superbowl events, but you don’t want to spend money on the tickets (which can be as high as $1,000 a person) offer to volunteer for the NFL. Volunteer work may include handing out merchandise, overseeing events, helping out at pre-game concerts and more. You’ll generally score admission to the events, plus t-shirts, free snacks and food, and other goodies.

Rather than springing for a fancy and expensive cake, purchase (or make) a plain sheet cake. Use icing to decorate it yourself to look like a football field.

Make your own face paint to celebrate your team. Just mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, 1 Tablespoon of shortening, and a few drops of food coloring.

Send your Superbowl party invitations for free, using a service such as Evite.com.

Don’t fall into the trap of believing that you need an HDTV to view the game. If you don’t already have one, then chances are you don’t really need it. If you absolutely can’t do without an HGTV for the event, look into renting one, and see how expensive that might be.
