This has got to be one of the best free software programs out there! Read on to learn all about it, including where you can get your own copy.
My oldest son is crazy about Legos. He can spend hours designing and building creations. Little block people with yellow heads get to drive sleek vehicles such as a laser-powered space ship, or fortify themselves behind elaborate high tech fortresses. Sometimes his visions are so complicated that he attempts to put them down on paper first. That is why I know that this free software program will have him jumping up and down, once I tell him about it.
I can’t say enough about this downloadable program. It is full featured and comes with so many options and available tools. This is unusual for a free program. The program does allow you to connect to the Lego store for more parts, but that is the least aspect of the designer.
Lego Digital Designer gives you the chance to play around and build whatever you can imagine out of three different types of Legos. The virtual pieces are arranged in different sets based on actual Lego sets, so if you like what you made, you know where to find the corresponding pieces in the real world. Pieces can also be arranged in a brick palette, making sorting the pieces so very easy to do.
The graphics in this program are amazing, and you can take full advantage of them as you zoom in and out, rotate your creations 360 degrees, alter perspective, and lift up any hinges, so you can really examine your project. Little (and big) boys are sure to love the exploding effect that sends all of the pieces flying to the corners of the virtual table, only to reassemble them with a click of the mouse.
There are 17 pre-built models to help you get started, if you are overwhelmed by a blank stage. You can also alter those models and use them as a starting point.
The program is available in both a Mac format and a Windows format.
