Ready to potty, uh party? We are going to get down and dirty with toilet cleaners, talking about what is in them, how they clean and what your options are in selecting the right cleaners.
There are so many different types of brands of toilet cleaners out there in the world. Some are brightly packaged with all sorts of guarantees attached while others are homemade from common household items. There are powders, liquids, gels and flush dispensers that are added to, or attached, to the tank. There are disposable wands with or without cleaner and even wands that spray cleaner out their ends.
Some toilet cleaners claim to clean, disinfect and deodorize. But what really works? Read on!
First, let’s look at the various cleaners in an overview of types.
In-tank cleaners are probably the easiest to use. They attach either inside the tank of the toilet, or on the side of the bowl facing in to the bowl itself. You just put them in place and forget about them. There are also tablets to drop into the toilet tank tank and new in-tank “machines” that automatically release cleaning chemicals.
Liquid and powder cleaners that are used with a toilet brush, while not as convenient as in-tank cleaners, do a better job than the former. Powders are a little more difficult to use than are the liquids and gels, when it comes to getting the cleaner up under the rim of the bowl. This type of cleaner includes chemical liquids (including bleach and earth friendly soaps), gels, powders and foams.
There are also disinfecting cleansers that may come in a liquid, gel or a foam. While, it seems comforting to think that you are killing germs, don’t be overly swayed by disinfecting claims. The disinfecting cleaner can only cut some of the germs and only do it temporarily.
