If you haven’t taken advantage of the parental controls for your video game system, I strongly suggest that you do so today.
We have been talking about setting up parental controls for the most popular game systems. This is part 2 for setting parental controls on the Microsoft Xbox 360. If you missed part 1 of this series, click here Setting Xbox 360 Parental Controls. See below for other video game systems.
We left off in the Game Ratings menu. In this menu, you will see all of the choices for game ratings: Mature, Teen, Everyone 10+, Everyone or Early Childhood. Brief definitions accompany each rating when it is highlighted. Select the highest game rating for your Xbox 360 to play without the need of a pass code.
You will then be brought back to the Console Controls Menu. Enter the “Set Pass Code” menu. It is the third choice from the bottom. Then select “Pass Code.” This will bring you to the Family Settings menu.
In the Family Settings menu, select the combination of buttons to chose a four-button pass code. You can use any combination of the Y, X, triggers, bumpers and the directional pad to set your code. Because this isn’t as simple as memorizing a four-digit number, you might want to record your combination on a piece of paper and keep it in a safe place.
After entering the pass code, you will need to select a security question. If you forget your pass code, the Xbox 360 will prompt you with this question. Once you select a security question, enter the answer. Make sure that it is a question and answer that is easy for you to remember but difficult for your children to figure out.
Select “Done” on your screen. It is the last button. Your Xbox 360 is now set up with parental controls. If you attempt to play a game with a higher rating than the one you set, you will be prompted to enter your pass code.
