Whether your business consists of a web site or you get your work through presentations, sales, etc. it still all comes down to being about to get the prospective customer’s attention and keep it long enough to convince them to do business with you. It is important that we put energy not just into broadcasting our marketing materials but also into how dynamic we can be in grabbing people’s attention and hanging on to it…
How interesting is your web site? If you have a web site as part of your business, do some self-critiquing to figure out how the home page stacks up against other interesting ones you have seen. Do you keep the content fresh? Colorful? Easy to maneuver around and not too busy? Keep in mind your target market and demographic to see if you are really doing what you can to reach out and nab them.
Once you’ve evaluated what you are doing on your web site (or marketing materials and/or presentations) to grab the prospects’ attention, now turn your evaluations to what you are doing to keep it. Is your web site all flash and headlines but not enough meat and nitty gritty to really be valuable to people? If we are talking about in person sales pitches and presentations–what are you doing to make sure that you’re speaking dynamic and interesting and that you are providing the sort of information that people want and need to hear in order to make a purchasing decision?
We cannot make sales and turn individuals into clients and customers if we do not get them to notice us and find out what our businesses are all about–that is why getting their attention and pulling them away from the market, and keeping it long enough to educate them about what we have to offer, is so important.
