I recently received a question from a reader who asked: “When is the cheapest time to visit Hawaii?”
I was born and raised in the 50th State and have spent the last 20 years flying back and forth from the “mainland” to my family’s home on the Big Island and I can honestly say the most affordable month to travel to Hawaii is May. With September, April, October, and February following in that order.
May is when the airlines and many hotels and resorts in Hawaii roll out their best deals. I once got a roundtrip non-stop flight from Minneapolis to Honolulu on Northwest Airlines (for a May departure) for a jaw dropping $399. That’s virtually unheard of during any other month (or ever, really).
If you are looking to vacation in paradise but are working with a tight budget look for May travel deals.
Here are a few I found today:
OAHU
The world-famous Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa (it’s hosted “Wheel of Fortune” and “Live with Regis and Kelly” multiple times) is running a spring special. For just $149 per room per night Sunday through Thursday ($165 per night Friday and Saturday) you can enjoy the wonders of Waikiki and swim at the hotel’s private white sand beach. The resort’s grounds are also home to ponds featuring more than 30 species of wildlife. When making your reservations be sure to request plan code P3. The offer is good through June 1st.
BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII
The Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island is also offering an incredible spring rate. For $159 per night through June 1st you can relax at the 62-acre resort, which allows you to swim with dolphins in its man-made lagoon or lounge at one of its four swimming pools complete with waterslides and waterfall hot tubs.
MAUI
The Napili Kai Beach Resort on Maui is offering several specials during its 2008 “Value Seasons.” The promotion runs from April 1 through June 13th and includes the following deals:
Fifth Night Free: For every four consecutive paid nights at the rack rate you will receive a fifth night free and a tropical flower arrangement in your room upon your arrival. Rack rates range from $270 to $460 per night.
Whale Watcher’s package: Requires a five-night minimum stay, with every fifth night free. Includes appetizers for two during an afternoon of your choice at the beachfront Whale Watcher’s Bar.
