Good ol’ George Clooney is at it again. The hunky Oscar-winner is taking a break from aiding those in the war-torn Darfur region and giving some Kentucky residents a chance to get glammed up Hollywood style.
For one night, the tiny town of Maysville, Kentucky will go Hollywood thanks to their famous hometown hero. On Monday night the 46-year-old actor-director will visit the northern Kentucky town for a special screening of his new movie, “Leatherheads.”
“The whole town is abuzz,” Maysville’s mayor told news reporters.
The former “ER” hottie, who went on to win an Academy Award for his role in “Syriana,” grew up in the town of Augusta, about 16 miles west of Maysville.
But that’s not the only reason the new film is debuting in the small town located along the Ohio River. According to actor’s dad Nick, the setting has special significance for the Clooney family. In 1953, “The Stars Are Singing,” starring Rosemary Clooney, George Clooney’s aunt, premiered in Maysville. The city’s mayor also pointed out that Maysville is the birthplace of both Nick and Rosemary Clooney.
“[George] knows all about that, and he is very interested in kind of connecting the dots as far as family history,” Nick Clooney said. “He thinks that would be kind of cool for the family, and one hopes for the town, too.”
In addition to the Clooney family, Maysville residents can also look forward to seeing Oscar-winner Renee Zellweger, who also stars in the movie–a romantic comedy set in the world of 1920s professional football.
According to Maysville’s mayor, Monday night’s screening of “Leatherheads” will probably be the biggest event in the town of about 9,000 since the premiere of “The Stars Are Singing.”
The film is scheduled to open in theaters across the rest of the country on April 4th.
