Defining Moments

There are experiences in life that can wake you up and give you the opportunity to really evaluate your goals, and your priorities. These opportunities can often motivate you into action. Recently I had one of these experiences. I had a medical issue that could resolve itself in two different ways, one seriously altered my outlook at life and would severely limit my ability to achieve several of my life time goals. The other way was much less serious and far-reaching. Thankfully it resolved in the second way.

However over the last month, as I went to the doctor, and realized that I had valid reasons for my concerns, it really begin to make me think about what I was doing with my time and my priorities. Every moment I had became more precious. As I made each choice, I began to cherish each moment, while also projecting the result into the future. It was a wonderful opportunity to assess my life, my purpose and goals.

I realized that while I may have limitations in this life, I can still do the things that are the most important. I also realized that through sincere prayer, I can feel the Savior’s love. As I read the scriptures peace and comfort came to me. Each of us has this same privilege; we can each communicate and let Heavenly Father know how we are feeling. We can seek His guidance, and find His counsel as we pray and read the scriptures. It is a wonderful blessing to have that in our lives.

It also brought into focus the things that are the most important to me. It honestly has been something I have been struggling with for the past few months. I come to the realization that this is what I should be focusing on and then allow myself to be distracted again and again. This experience has really helped me to realize why my priorities should be on the most important things my family and the gospel.
