A dead umbrella has no use, right? Of course you know that I am going to say that of course a dead umbrella has a reuse. You know this blog by now, and reusing items that might otherwise wind up in the landfill is a great frugal thing.
Our umbrellas seem to be drying left and right on us. We have a virtual umbrella graveyard. Perhaps it is the blustery wind of spring. Perhaps it is the fact that all of our umbrellas are about the same age and have just reached the end of their natural life spans, Or perhaps it could be that the umbrellas often double as pirate swords for one six-year-old boy.
What ever the case, I wanted to think up some uses for our dead umbrella. I enlisted the help of my husband. He came up with this idea:
Use the umbrella frame as a hanging rack for delicate items. Hang the umbrella upside down without the covering. Attach clothespins to the frame. To dry delicate wash without putting in the dryer or exposing it outside for the neighbors to see, simply clip it to your homemade hanging rack.
And what can you do with the canvas from the umbrella? Here is a cute idea. Turn the canvas covering into a rain poncho for a small child. All it take is to cut a hole in the middle for the child’s head. You can reinforce the hole with fusible tape if you wish. We already know that the canvas is waterproof. Add a rain hat and some rain boots, and your child is all set for the spring weather. If you don’t have a rain hat, make a hood from the canvas of another dead umbrella.
What do you think? Do you have any other ideas to reuse dead umbrella?
