Or should I say, “two weeks in review?” We’re combining the last two weeks into one today, and it makes a fun assortment of movies to add to your “to be watched” list.
We’ll start out with “Bee Movie,” the new film just released to DVD which was written by and stars Jerry Seinfeld. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh idea in the plot, but curious why they chose to include a little bit of swearing in a film for families.
I also reviewed “Autumn in New York” for the purposes of venting my intense feelings of dislike for the film. Sometimes it’s great to have a way to express oneself to large quantities of people at once, and I took full advantage.
Next on my list was “Catch and Release,” the new Jennifer Garner movie which also disturbed me on many levels but didn’t stir up quite as many feelings of loathing as did the previous film mentioned (see above).
I also watched “August Rush,” the story of a young boy who grew up without parents and uses his musical talents to reconnect with them. A surprisingly dark film, it still had its good points.
I enjoyed watching the Hitchcock classic “Vertigo,” starring James Stewart and Kim Novak. No one does it better than Hitch, as I further proved with my review of “Suspicion,” starring Joan Fontaine and Cary Grant.
“Gene Kelly: Anatomy of a Dancer” is a documentary made to examine the life of one of my favorite movie stars of all time. We see where Gene came from, how he got his start, and we get a peek into his genius.
Let’s bring things to a close with the melodrama “The Heiress,” starring Olivia de Havilland (who, incidentally, is Joan Fontaine’s sister). We all know that we shouldn’t scorn women, and this movie shows us what happens when that sage bit of advice is not followed.
I sure enjoyed bringing you these movies, and hope you’ll be able to join me again soon here in Movie Reviews.
