This is the blog to watch if you’re looking to change careers or are just starting to consider what your career options will be. The best careers are chosen based a variety of factors including prestige, pay, and job security.
Registered Nurse
Registered nurses have a lot of options available to them–from working in a hospital to being a legal consultant and helping lawyers determine the validity of claims. Not only that but if the desire is to work directly with patients, you can just about pick any specialty you want. The major down side is that you generally have to work nights, weekends and holidays at some point during your career. Also, mistakes can be deadly so you must be extremely attentive to detail–even when you’re stressed and tired. The median salary is $60,400.
School Psychologist
One of the great things about being a school psychologist is that you probably work a school schedule–9 months out of the year. But unlike a teacher, you don’t have the summer prep work and general ongoing education. School psychologists get to do a lot of assessing students needs–both for disabilities and for gifted programs. They also get to conduct parent workshops and train teachers on how to incorporate special needs students in their classrooms. The median salary is $62,600.
Systems Analyst
A systems analyst is the one you call when you want to rid your office of the ancient system it is using and change over to a new one so that everyone can use wireless inter office communication as well as access the system from their palm pilots. The systems analyst comes in, figures out what the company needs, determines a plan and helps make a shopping list and then implements the system and trouble shoots. This is a better job for someone who is creative with a tech background rather than a member of the geek squad because it requires a high level of team work and motivational ability. The median salary for this job is $91,000.
