One of the most encouraging things we can do for others is to pray for them. It is also encouraging for us knowing others are praying for us. The other writers and I who were part of the 40 day prayer covenant, found it hard sometimes to make time for praying for each other.
Yet we were so encouraged by our participation in the 40 day prayer covenant and the answers to prayer we saw, that we opted to continue praying for each other on a regular basis. A person a day on a daily basis. It’s a lovely feeling to know that others are praying with us about the issues that concern us. Part of the joy of being a Christian is being able to share our concerns and our joys.
The other day I received an excited email to another online group I belong to, telling us how she had invited a co-worker along to a book launch. The book launch was the book Decadence – 10 years of Footprints magazine articles. The co-worker not only came along she enjoyed the time.
The email then went onto say how she then invited the co-worker along to a women’s seminar at their church. The co-worker not only went along to this but she gave her life to the Lord and has since started going to church. All because someone took the little step of inviting her along to an event.
Not only was she encouraged by what happened from that experience but when she related it to those of us on the email list, we were encouraged as well because saw the power of God at work in a person’s life and that’s always exciting.
I found this particular incident encouraging, since our church is gearing up to take part in Connect 09 – a program designed to help Christians reach out to those outside the church.
The purpose of church is not only to use the gifts we have, but to encourage each other in our Christian walk. That’s an important part of why we meet together, Hebrews 10:25.
Jesus never said the Christian life would be easy, John 16:33. But He did say that the comfort we receive from God in the hard times is so we can use it to comfort and encourage others, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. What are you doing to encourage those in your church, bible study, family, work place, or neighborhood?
One of the great comforts of the Christian life is praying for others and knowing they are praying for us. Do you know this comfort in your life?
