Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

There are so many things that you could complain about in life. You probably do not like having to wait in line or sit in a traffic jam, or pay taxes. The same goes for your marriage.

If you sit and think long enough and hard enough I am sure that you can come up with over a dozen things that you wish were different. Either you want your husband to help out more with chores or you wish that your wife would not talk during your sports shows. Perhaps you would like to have a bigger house or a fancier car to drive. You would like it if your spouse made more money or kept a tidier lifestyle.

Before sitting around and dwelling on the things that you wish were different, sit and consider which of them really matter. So does it really interrupt your life that you have to hunt for a clean towel every now and then or does it harm you in some way if your husband’s socks are left where he took them off?

In moderation, these things likely will not have any negative long lasting effects.

However if you put too much emphasis on them and dwell on them long enough, they can drive you crazy and even cause a great stress on your marriage.

Like with most things in life, you must choose your battles and focus on the things that are truly important. Consider the other things as being petty details that you really need to sometimes just let go.

Every satisfied and happy person in this world could find something in his or her life that is not perfect. Just like everyone else, they have troubles. The difference between happy people and unhappy people is that the happy people choose not to let the worldly, minor things get them down. They focus on what is most important and accept minor imperfections in their lives.
