Summer Heats Up with Potential Blockbusters

They’re baaack… your favorite big screen characters such as Indiana Jones, Batman, Speed Racer, the “Narnia” kids, and the Incredible Hulk are getting ready to bring it this summer to a theater near you.

So who will walk away the big champ at the box office this summer?

Here’s a look at some of the contenders:

JUNE 27: “Wall-E.” Leave it to the Pixar-Disney animators to knock out a new film that is already creating massive summer buzz. “Finding Nemo” director Andrew Stanton is at the helm of “Wall-E,” the tale of a janitorial robot who has toiled away for centuries because no one remembered to turn him off after Earth is trashed to the point that the planet must be abandoned. Critics call this flick an “animated masterpiece,” but after my 3-year-old saw the trailer she flat out refused to consider seeing it in the movie theater because she said, “The robot looks yucky and talks funny.”

JULY 2: “Hancock” puts Will Smith back on the big screen this Fourth of July weekend. The movie also stars Charlize Theron in a tale of an alcoholic superhero with real problems like the rest of us. If the plot doesn’t get you producers say the special effects will.

JULY 11: “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” Producers of this Brendan Fraser flick call it a modern twist on the Jules Verne’s classic tale. Only this version is presented entirely in three-dimensional digital video. Which means the movie’s albino dinosaur at the Earth’s core will appear as though it is sitting in your lap.

JULY 11: “Meet Dave.” Eddie Murphy returns to the movies in a comedy where his character tools around in a ship that look just like… Eddie Murphy. Murphy stars as the leader of a group of tiny aliens scouting Earth because their own race is endangered and he does so in a part robot, part human life form.
