The topic of dinner last night was what types of things change after you have a few babies. My oldest daughter was noting in particular, that my spouse is now much better with the mess factor–which is pretty significant at our house.
Your Clothes
I know very, very few women who attain their pre-pregnancy shape back. Even women who are slender and fit admit that pregnancy simply changes your body and even if your old clothes fit, they don’t fit the same. Not to mention the fact that most women who have several babies, have to wear maternity clothes after they give birth for at least a little while. Not so with the first born. Afterwards you can still skinny into just about anything.
Your Newborn Baby Handling Skills
I swear that my first born was more fragile than glass. We gingerly handled her when ever we picked her up. I didn’t realize how ‘ginger’ we were until I watched my sister in law with my niece one day. My sister in law is a nurse on a maternity floor. She handles newborns all day for a living. I was shocked to see that she handled the baby as if it wouldn’t break. Five children later, I’m plopping and slinging with the best of ’em.
Your Knack for Particulars
I’ve never been an extremely detailed oriented parent. Socks in a stroller are completely optional and if the twins decide that it’s cute to wear shoes that don’t match–I’m fine with that. I’ve always been that way. My husband however has not. . .he had to grow into his laid back self.
If you’re working on your second or third or fourth, it’s fun to note in a baby book or your journal some of your thoughts and feelings. No doubt, parenting changes you. Likewise, parenting two or three or five changes you even more!
