Diary of a Cat Care B&B: the Biggest Cat Ever

We have a very unusual guest at the cats-only boarding facility right now — the biggest cat I have ever seen.

We’ve had some large guests before — I can think of at least one who weighed more than twenty pounds and a few who came very close to the twenty pound mark. But this cat tops them all. He tipped the scale at a whopping thirty-three pounds when he arrived.

Everyone who comes in can’t help but notice the big guy in the isolation room.

This poor cat was too big for our regular condos — he couldn’t even fit through the hole to get into the little room with the litterbox. Instead, we gave him an entire isolation room to himself.

With a cat this large, we could have a real challenge on our hands — if he weren’t such a sweet, good-natured guy. Thank goodness he isn’t aggressive or skittish! In fact, he’s very friendly and loves being petted. He’ll waddle right over to anybody with a hand available for scratching. He even likes belly rubs — it’s adorable.

The one challenge has been weighing him. For one thing, he sure is an armful! The other problem is that most of the scales at the boarding facility and veterinarian’s office are just too small for him to fit all four feet on at one time. We have only one scale with a large enough pad. Just our luck that it’s been on the fritz lately.

I’m amazed that this cat is such good health — obesity is a big factor in pets who develop diabetes. The big guy’s owner is committed to helping his pet lose weight, too. So hopefully, the biggest cat I’ve ever seen won’t be this big for much longer. He’s been switched to a calorie control food from Royal Canin and he’s already starting to lose some weight.

I think this lovable cat has a bright, healthy future ahead.
