As long as you don’t fly American Airlines.
All kidding aside news on the travel front has been anything but encouraging this week. From record high gas prices (the cost for a gallon of unleaded fuel has topped the $4 mark in dozens of major cities across the country) to insane added fees tacked on by airlines that claim to be suffering in a slumping economy, you practically need to win the lottery to afford to take a family vacation these days.
Luckily there are some sectors of the travel industry that are helping families salvage their summer vacations. Several hotel chains around the nation are coming to the rescue of cash strapped clans.
Check out these summer deals being offered by lodgings across the U.S.:
FLORIDA
If you act fast you might still have a chance to take advantage of Floridays Resort Orlando’s Explore & Save package. The deal is good through the end of June (though you must book by May 31, 2008) and offers incredible savings. Rates start at $75 per person (kids ages 4 and under stay free) per night, so a family of four, with kids older than 4 years old, would pay $300 per night. The price covers accommodations in a two- or three-bedroom suite, with a full kitchen and two bathrooms, passes to SeaWorld and the brand-new, 52-acre water park, Aquatica. In addition you’ll also receive a Perks Card, which provides discounts to the Arabian Nights Dinner Attraction, Gatorland, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, the Carving Station Restaurant, Magical Midway, Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show, and other local attractions.
PENNSYLVANIA
Several top rated hotels in the Philadelphia area are running an outstanding deal this summer called the Animal Discoveries Hotel Package. For $250 per room per night you’ll receive hotel accommodations, free parking (a $50 value), and two adult and two child tickets to the Philadelphia Zoo, the Adventure Aquarium, and the Ride the Ducks Tour (a savings of $200). The six participating area hotels are: Embassy Suites Philadelphia-City Center, Holiday Inn Philadelphia-Historic District, Hyatt Regency At Penn’s Landing, Loews Philadelphia Hotel, Sheraton Philadelphia City Center Hotel, and Sheraton University City.
OHIO
The 200-room Cherry Valley Lodge resort located in Newark, Ohio (25 miles east of Columbus), wants you to splash into summer with their cool summer travel deal: the Wild Waterpark Works! Package. For $388 a family of four can enjoy two nights’ accommodations, four passes to CoCo Key indoor water park good for two days, an outdoor safari at the Wilds wildlife conservation center, and four passes to the Works discovery museum. The offer is good through October.
