If you are active in the scrapbooking community at all, you might have seen reference to a new term dubbed hybrid scrapbooking. But what in the world does it mean? Is scrapbooking going green or is it referencing some scrapbooking vehicle for us hobby lovers? Nope. It’s a whole new take on the world of scrapbooking and it has taken off like a storm.
First let’s look at what the word hybrid means. Hybrid is a something of mixed origin or composition. It essentially means two things that have been combined to be one thing. So knowing that, how does that explain what hybrid scrapbooking is?
Well, you’ve heard me say before that I just cannot seem to get into digital scrapbooking no matter how hard I try. Well, I know there are others like me, but perhaps hybrid scrapbooking might be an alternative method. I’ve done with with the handful of digital layouts I have created.
Hybrid scrapbooking is the combination of the newer digital scrapbooking and traditional paper and scissor scrapbooking. Basically, you create a simple layout digitally although I am sure an extravagant one will work too. Then you add traditional embellishments after you have printed it out. Maybe some 3d embellishments like chipboard letters for the title, brads, flowers, etc. This allows you to combine both and be creative with your scrapbooking.
So how is hybrid scrapbooking working for people? There are now entire websites, blogs and challenges created just for the hybrid scrapbooker. In my opinion, hybrid scrapbooking is a new way to scrapbook in a more creative and versatile way. I still won’t give up my normal paper and embellishments, but at least now I know I can dabble with digital and still have my fun with my hands cutting, tearing or adding dimension with my embellishments.
