How Clean Is Your House – Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie

Guess what I found at the library? Those ladies from the How Clean Is Your House TV show have a book! The How Clean Is Your House? book is subtitled “Hundreds of handy tips to make your home sparkle”.

And the book is just that. It first introduces Aggie MacKenzie and Kim Woodburn and explains how they ended up cleaning Brittan’s filthiest homes. There’s a quick quiz to see if you are a filth offender. Then “the girls” explain what is in their own essential cleaning kits. And like in the show, they use environmentally and people friendly products like vinegar, baking soda, and dishwashing soap. .

The book goes through the house, room by room, and item by item, telling the reader how to clean floors, windows, sinks, TV’s, toys, beds, different types of bathtubs, fireplaces, computers, lampshades, plants, and even stairways. Many pages are devoted to cleaning up after pets and preventing allergies. It’s nice to have so many of Kim and Aggie’s cleaning tips handy in one place. They even have hints for getting wax out of carpet and rust off a cooking pot.

Kim and Aggie suggest that you do a little bit of cleaning each day. The book includes suggested daily, weekly, and monthly routines. They also have a list of seasonal chores.

The book is “Americanized”, the stove is called a stove instead of a cooker. And I miss the British-isms, I really do think that is part of the charm of the show. But the book still sounds like Kim and Aggie, which makes it a fun read. It’s full of encouragement and advice like “Scrub, dear, don’t tickle”, “You can’t get over familiar with your mop, you know!”, and “Get on with it and no moaning, you lazy beggars!”
