Are you looking for something good to throw in your DVD player this week? We just might have something that will fill the bill.
We started out our week with a look at “The Magic School Bus: Creepy, Crawly Fun,” which teaches children some basic principles of science in a fun, entertaining way. I always learn something myself when I watch these shows with my children.
Then we learned about “Wall-E,” the phenomenal new film by Disney Pixar. You’ll be blown away by the effects and the charm of this film that blogger Heather Long called “Quite simply the best movie that Disney Pixar has ever made, bar none.”
“Fairy Tale” is the true story of two girls who are seeking a way to deal with the grief caused in their lives by the tragedies of World War I. They claim to have taken pictures of fairies, and that spark of belief in magic brings peace to the hearts of many whose loved ones had been taken away from them.
“The Magic School Bus: Space Adventures” takes us flying out through the planets to learn about the terrain and gravity levels on each of them. We learn which planets are the coldest, which have the best visibility, and which are the most like Earth.
“How the West Was Fun” is another Mary Kate and Ashley romp, filmed when the girls were younger. They portray two city girls who go out to help a ranch in trouble in memory of their deceased mother, who loved that ranch when she was a girl.
“The Secret of Roan Inish” was a boring film about a girl who goes to live with her grandparents and learns the legends of her family. I really must encourage you to spend your time elsewhere.
“Babe: Pig in the City” is darker than the original film as Babe goes into the city to try to collect enough money to save the farm and encounters mean animals, hunger, and prejudice. But there are still plenty of funny moments to be had, and overall, it was enjoyable.
We ended the week with “Overboard,” a Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn movie about a carpenter who is struggling to raise his children alone. When his snotty socialite boss gets whacked on the head and develops amnesia, he decides to teach her a lesson and takes her home with him, telling her she’s his wife. Along the way, they both learn the lessons they need to make their lives and their relationships complete.
