Sunday Travel Funnies: It’s All How You Look at It

What would you think if you were driving down a suburban street and found yourself at the end of a radar gun… being held by an 11-year-old? Would you slow down?

Drivers in Louisville, Kentucky have. In fact, so many motorists have laid off the gas pedal when they see young Landon Wilburn that he has made front page news across the country.

Since police can’t be everywhere, the enterprising boy took matters into his own hands. According to Wilburn, speeding motorists were out of control in his Louisville subdivision and when he shouts to drivers to slow down didn’t work he got creative.

The preteen dug around in his closet and found a reflective vest, a bicycle helmet and a Hot Wheels brand radar gun. He now uses all three to attract attention to himself in hopes drivers will slow down.

Wilburn says he points his toy radar at cars and records the speed of each vehicle. He also carries a flashlight with a built-in siren, which he uses if he clocks a car going in excess of the speed limit.

Police say they have seen dozens of drivers put on their brakes when they see Wilburn clocking them. Officials say Wilburn will be able to take a break from his speed clocking duties once the city installs speed humps in the neighborhood. The only catch: the city will only install the speed bumps if 70 percent of residents agree and are willing to put up half the money.

Motorists in Wisconsin are slowing down as they get close to Carlene and Duane Schultz’s farm in Eleva. The couple just unveiled a corn maze paying tribute to the Dairy State’s favorite athlete—-Brett Favre.

The Schultz’s say they decided to use Favre’s image in their corn maze after he announced his retirement in the spring. Little did they know that the 3 time NFL MVP would later make headlines by asking the Green Bay Packers to release him so he could possibly play for another team this season.

The maze at Schultz’s Country Barn in Eleva reads “thanks” and shows Favre’s upper body holding a football, with his No. 4 jersey. Visitors can navigate their way through the corn maze when it opens on September 1st.

The family plans to give $1 from each ticket sold to the Deanna Favre Foundation, which supports breast cancer research.
