On this day set aside for prayer and thoughtful reflection I thought it would be appropriate to blog about the way some people are combining God and travel.
In St. Louis, Missouri a group of avid travelers will be offering two prayer services at area gas stations to thank God for lower fuel prices and to ask that they continue to drop.
I’m not kidding.
Darrell Alexander, Midwest co-chair of the “Pray at the Pump” movement, says prayer gatherings will be held tomorrow afternoon and evening at a Mobil station west of downtown St. Louis.
Alexander says he and a number of other “Pray at the Pump” group members plan to buy gas, pray and then sing “We Shall Overcome” with a new verse, “We’ll have lower gas prices.”
An activist from the Washington D.C. area formed the budget conscious group, saying if politicians couldn’t lower gas prices, it was time to ask God to intervene.
By the way, Alexander told news reporters that he thinks the group’s prayers are helping since gas prices have now fallen below $4 a gallon.
A New York City lawyer, who’s suing Delta Air Lines for $5 million, could use the power of prayer to help him in his travel woes.
Thomas Mullaney claims Delta’s incompetence led to him being stranded in Paris for four days last October during an airport workers’ strike. According to Mullaney, the airline refused to let passengers rebook flights by telephone and for “unfathomable” reasons insisted they go to the chaotic airport and rebook there.
Mullaney says he paid $5,000 for two round-trip tickets from New York to Paris and Delta refused to reimburse him for the unused portion. The Big Apple resident says he eventually returned home on American Airlines.
In his lawsuit Mullaney says he believes Delta stranded and failed to reimburse thousands of passengers. The documents were filed last week in Manhattan and seek class action status.
