Can You Sing Like Elvis?

If so, this is your chance to prove it… thanks to the folks who run Graceland and MySpace.

Managers at Elvis Presley’s world-famous former home have teamed up with the social networking website MySpace for the first ever “Elvis Week Karaoke Contest.”

The nationwide singing contest is welcoming anyone who can carry a tune to show off his or her style of an Elvis classic. The big event gets underway at Graceland during the annual festivities that mark the legendary singer’s death.

The King of Rock and Roll died at Graceland on August 16, 1977, and each summer the famous white-columned house becomes the venue for a weeklong celebration that draws tens of thousands of fans from around the world. This year, according to Graceland officials, the karaoke contest will get things going.

If you are interested in becoming a singing Elvis impersonator (technically you don’t have to appear in costume) simply go to MySpace’s karaoke site at and record one of three Elvis songs, “Hound Dog,””If I Can Dream” or “Suspicious Minds.”

If you are chosen as the winner you will get the chance to perform at Graceland on August 12 in front of throngs of fans gathered on a side lawn to watch Elvis movies and listen to a band playing Presley songs.

You’ll be singing at Elvis’ house so bring you’re A-game.

According to the official rules, the contest is open to MySpace users across the United States and Canada. The deadline to record your Elvis song is August 4th. And keep in mind that only those contestants that garner at least 100 hits from MySpace users will be included in the competition.

Contest officials also warn contestants that the karaoke contest is for audio recordings only and participants should perform in their own personal styles. The contest will be judged by representatives of Graceland, MySpace and Sony BMG Music Entertainment, not by MySpace users.
