The odd baby name is finally explained! Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale welcomed their second son this week – Zuma Nesta Rock – and I wondered where the name came from. Baby name expert (I never knew there was such a thing!) Pamela Redmond Satran explained it all yesterday to US magazine.
She believes the name Zuma came from Zuma Beach in Malibu. It seems that earlier in his career, Rossdale said he was standing on the beach in the early morning when he made a life changing decision. He had been working all night as a production assistant on a music video when he finally decided he was just wasting his time. After that moment on the Zuma Beach, he began seriously pursuing his own music career. However, Zuma is also the name of a Neil Young and Crazy Horse album, so could it have a double meaning?
Okay, now on to Nesta. As Michele mentioned in an earlier comment, Nesta is Bob Marley’s first name, which was incorrectly listed as his middle name by an immigration official. That makes sense I guess, since baby Zuma Nesta Rock’s big brother is named Kingston (the capital of Jamaica).
Satran felt Rock needed no explanation, since both Stefani and Rossdale are rock stars. Hum, maybe I should have named Will either Computer or Writer.
I just read today that Hollywood is planning a remake of one of my all time favorite horror movies, Poltergeist. My only thought to this news story was “No!” followed quickly by “Why?” MGM has hired Stiles White and Juliet Snowden for the rewrite. As it turns out, this duo is also currently working on a remake of The Birds (again – why?).
Why does Hollywood love to mess with a great movie by remaking it? I remember when another of my favorites was remade a couple of years ago. I never did see the “new” Poseidon Adventure. I mean, if something’s not broke, why fix it?
