I’m continuing my examination of a typical frugal kid, as he appeared this morning while waiting for the bus stop. You can see that it doesn’t take a lot of money to have a healthy and happy kid. If you missed the first post, click here: Anatomy of A Frugal Kid.
Now, let us continue with the torso.
In the backpack is a new lunch box that I purchased at the end of September for only $2. It is insulated and a name brand. In it, you’ll find a homemade lunch that includes items such as from scratch banana bread, along with special treats that ate purchased on sale or for free.
Underneath the coat are an array of gently used purchased or hand-me-down clothes, including a name brand sweater. On his legs he is wearing a pair of jeans purchased at a Levis outlet. I find that little boys tend to wear out their jeans, so used ones good enough for school are hard to find, although sometimes it does happen. His jeans have an adjustable waist, which means that he may get one extra year out of the pants.
Feet
On his feet are name brand sneakers with characters that were purchased at another’s store’s outlet for $2.99, reduced from $34.00. The outlets were in the same complex, so gas was saved by doing all of our shopping at once. The durable socks came from an end of year sale and have lasted a few years already, despite growing feet and lots of bleach. A pair of hand me down Timberlane boots that were worn once by their original owner will replace the sneakers when the weather turns colder.
There really isn’t much to it, but when you add up all of your frugal choices, you can see how much is actually saved in the form of one little kid.
