The next time Dancing with the Stars’ Cheryl Burke and Lacey Schwimmer gear up to kick it on the dance floor they may be aiming their feet directly at fellow pros Louis van Amstel and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s rear ends.
The ladies are reportedly displeased (to put it mildly) with the recent comments van Amstel and Chmerkovskiy made to TV Guide about the size of their… um… assets.
“When I first saw these women this season, I said, ‘Guys, you know the camera adds 10 pounds,'” Chmerkovskiy complained to the magazine. “‘You have to do something about this.”
Van Amstel also weighed in on Burke and Schwimmer’s appearance saying:
“If you want to gain weight, it’s your prerogative. We all put on weight because there was no summer tour. But you have to deal with the consequences.”
Burke knows all about those “consequences.” The two-time DWTS champ has been the target of dehumanizing remarks made by those in the blogosphere since packing on a few pounds since last season.
Van Amstel noted that Burke and Schwimmer have gotten slimmer since the season’s premiere, but he says the damage is done.
“[People] look at this show to be inspired and think, ‘If I just work hard enough, I can look like that,'” van Amstel says. “If they watch someone who’s dancing her butt off and she’s still heavy, they can be discouraged.”
Simply put, says van Amstel, Burke and Schwimmer need to “take responsibility for their weight.”
Is Louis van Amstel married? I know Maksim is not and he might stay that way for a while as more and more women learn about his take on females and their respective physiques.
Whereas I completely understand where the make pro dancers are coming from—-they want to promote ballroom dancing in the best possible light–I don’t think they are doing the industry any favors by putting down their own colleagues.
Even if they thought Burke and Schwimmer were not in tiptop form, why announce it to the world?
