Alaska Homeschool Groups and Resources I-Z

To succeed in homeschooling, it is in your best interest to get involved with other homeschoolers. You should join a homeschool network or group near you. For this reason, I have decided to give a full listing of homeschooling groups throughout each state. Yes, there are other sites that list homeschool networks and support groups but none of are comprehensive. Some of them only list Christian, others only list those affiliated with them. This list covers of Homeschooling groups in Alaska I-Z, also see (A-H).

IDEA International IDEA International is an accredited K-12 correspondence school for homeschooling families worldwide. The program includes certified teacher support, computer and internet connection and allotment for educational resources.

Juneau Home Educators Association The JHEA is a local support group for homeschooling families in and around Juneau, Alaska. This group has been a source of encouragement for Juneau homeschoolers for around 18 years.

K12AK (K12 Alaska) – This email loop is for folks who are currently using or thinking about using Dr William Bennett’s K12 curriculum, either as a homeschooler or as a member of a Virtual Charter School.

MatSu Homeschoolers for Christ MatSu Homeschoolers for Christ has formed out of the variety of ideas, needs, hopes, and vision of a handful of both new and experienced homeschool parents. These parents have expressed a common desire to meet regularly with other like-minded families as they disciple their children towards Christ while home educating.

Ninilchik Homeschool Support Group (Kenai Penninsula) Meetings are the second Tuesday of the month. For more information, please contact Kit at Calvary Baptitst Church.

North Star Independent Homeschoolers (NSIH) We are families of homeschoolers in Interior Alaska’s North Star Borough who homeschool our children without taking any government monies or oversight to do so.

Parents in Alaska Teaching Children at Home(PATCH) Monthly get togethers – we try to get togethers at least once a month, and have a potluck meal together, and some type of activity – we try to make them somewhat educational. Tina bullshop@wildak.net

Raven Correspondence and Homeschool Raven is an Alaskan statewide program that will help you educate your children by giving monetary allotments, computer lease/purchase options, certified teacher support & tutoring, media services, reading assessments and incentives, student activities, and online tools to aid you in your homeschooling journey.

Valley Christian Home Educators (Lower Mat-Su Valley) An informal “Mom’s Night Out” takes place on the last Thursday of the month at the Lake Lucille Best Western Shoreline Restaurant (7-10 pm). Formerly known as VHEST, this is a group of Christian families residing in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and home educating our children to the glory and honor of our Lord God. This email list, as well as the support group, is intended to provide a vital communication link between Christian homeschool families in the valley and encourage and support each other in our goal of homeschooling our children.


WesternRegionUnschoolers
(Western Region Unschoolers) – A group for unschoolers that want more time to play with friends in the Western U.S. covering: Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and California. This is a forum to organize some travel, camping, and other places to get together. Created by unschoolers living in the Western Region of the U.S. who attended the Live & Learn Unschooling Conference.
