Cool Places to Visit Santa

If you have children, then you likely have plans to visit Santa Claus in the next few weeks. Some of you will head to the mall to meet up with Jolly Ol’ St. Nick while others of you might catch the rotund elf in a Christmas parade.

For those of you looking to make this year’s visit with Santa extra special for your little ones consider the following holiday events:

The Polar Express (Grand Canyon Railway)

If you’re near Williams, Arizona this month then you don’t want to miss the chance to ride the rails with Santa. The Grand Canyon Railway brings the classic children’s book, The Polar Express, to life with Christmas-themed trips. Kids are encouraged to wear their pajamas and fuzzy slippers while they dine on cookies, sip hot chocolate, and listen to the audio book on the northbound train trip. At the end of the ride Santa appears and gives each child a sleigh bell, just like in the book.

Legoland California Resort

It’s one of the only places in the world where you can take a family photo alongside a massive Lego Santa. Carlsbad, California—-home of Legoland–hosts the big red guy each holiday season. If that doesn’t make for the ideal Christmas card photo, then gather the clan and pose next to a life-size Lego Santa sitting in his sleigh, drawn by Lego reindeer. The park is also home to dozens of miniature Santas made from smaller toy bricks along with a stilt-walking toy soldier and strolling carolers.

Santa on the Rock

Mark your calendars for December 6th and 13th. That’s when Santa Claus makes stops at Chimney Rock Park, North Carolina. On those chilly December days Santa will be taking a 26-story elevator to the top of Chimney Rock, then rappelling down the massive boulders. The jolly guy then makes his rounds with the crowds and heads back up the mountain. If you don’t catch him on the ground Santa is also available for photos at the Sky Lounge and when he reaches the parking lot. Once you snap your keepers you and the kids can enjoy hot chocolate, spiced cider and cookies while listening to holiday music in the park’s visitor’s center.
