I’ve always had a special relationship with books, for at least as long as I can remember. My very first books, The Poky Little Puppy and a set of children’s encyclopedias were treasured as no other toys were. Through the years, I also dreamed of having my own built-in bookcases.

When we moved to our new home, one of the options we had was whether or not to keep the refrigerator that was already here. We had to leave our old one at our old home for the new owners. The refrigerator that went with our new home was old and small, so the decision wasn’t too hard to make on letting it go.

No matter how we prepare for Christmas, sometimes we find ourselves in awkward gift giving situations. Take for example, the time that you neighbor brought over some Christmas cookies and you had nothing to give back. Or, the time that you gave a gift and got greeted with a “Oh, I didn’t know we were exchanging gifts this year.” Or how about when your child received a gift from a well-meaning friend or relative and blurted out a rude “I don’t want this.” Well, there are some gracious ways to deal with these situations.
