Over in the PARENTS blog we’ve been having a lively discussion about the accumulation of holiday photo cards. If you are popular enough, then you likely struggle with how to display the mountains of greeting cards in an attractive manner.
Some people choose to tape them to doorways, while others opt for traditional wire cardholders. However, if you have cards arriving by the truckload from friends, family and some from people you’ve never heard of before, then you’re probably dealing with space issues right about now.
It’s not a bad dilemma to be faced with, yet the matter still needs to be addressed. So, I scoured my resources looking for ways to cut down on the clutter and still display holidays cards with dignity.
CARD WREATH
Take a plain holiday wreath and embellish it with photo cards. Simply punch a hole in the upper left corner of each card, then string wire ribbon through hole; tie it to branch on wreath by twisting the ends of the wire.
CARD TREE
You can use the same idea to decorate a plain miniature Christmas tree. But to make it more festive looking, grab some holiday-shaped cookie cutters, a pencil, some scissors, a hole punch and your favorite decorative wire ribbon. Choose the most colorful cards, and use the cookie cutter to outline a shape. Next, cut it out, punch a hole, insert some ribbon and add it to your tree.
CARD BOWL
Another simple and affordable way to display holiday cards is to place them in a large beautiful bowl in your entryway.
CARD DONATION
Once the holiday season has ended, consider bundling up all your cards and sending them to an organization called RAFT (Resource Area For Teaching). According to their website, the company uses donated recycled and surplus materials to create interactive learning experiences for students in math, science, technology and art. They also provide teachers and community groups with creative tools to enhance education and promote hands-on teaching. RAFT also uses a variety of holiday cards for math and art activities.
