It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year for Thrift Store Bargains 2

clothing rack As you wonder what to do with all of your leftovers, take advantage of other people’s leftovers, too…leftover stuff, that is. This is the best time of year to get wonderful merchandise for pennies on the dollar at your local thrift store. If you missed the first part of this topic posted earlier today, click here.

You should also find a lot of toys, as parents, overwhelmed with all of the gifts, either donate brand new items in an effort to bring the gift giving under control, or donated older toys to make way for the new ones. I found two completely new science kits for ages 8 and up for $6 a piece. They are selling in the teacher store down the road for $39.99 a piece. My son is gifted in science and mathematics (says the proud mom), so these kits will be wonderful gifts to save for his next birthday.

Because of all of those donations coming in to the thrift stores, the stores themselves have to make way for the new merchandise. This means that a lot of items, especially clothing, are discounted by 50% or more off of the normal price. with very little effort, I was able to find a pair of Eddie Bauer jeans that looked brand new and were in my size for only $2.50.

Another type of item I saw a lot of was things for the home. And while I didn’t find the pyrex dishes I was hoping for to use for my freezer cooking, my father did come away with a bellows for our fireplace. Other things that were available, but which we personally didn’t need were lots of organizers for children’s toys, wooden desks, wall art, mirrors and the like.

So if you have some time this weekend, you might want to take a trip to your local thrift store. It is the best time of year to find some treasures.
